Christmas Lights Nail Art

I"m starting to love nail art more and more. I've tried twice already to free hand a string of lights but it would never look right. While on twitter, I noticed Lauren Conrad (judge all you want) has posted a pic of her Christmas light manicure and knew I needed to try it out. The difference with hers was that thread was used for the light string. Such a good idea! To see the original post click The Beauty Department

5 Facts about OPI

Here's a copy of a post from over at "The Ultimate Beauty Guide", that I found interesting:

Dani Stahl’s column in Nylon magazine, Factory Girl, requires her to travel around the world visiting clothing and product factories. It’s always a fun read, and it’s nice to learn about the processes behind a lot of popular brands. This month, she visited the OPI nail polish factory in Los Angeles, and I never realized how little I knew about one of beauty’s best brands.

Classic Monday "Bubble Bath" Review

Bubble Bath is described as "Sweet Candy Pink" by O.P.I. (straight and to the point, I like it)

Bubble Bath is a sheer pale pink polish that dries to a glossy creme finish. Originally part of the Sheer Romance Collection, it is now part of O.P.I.'s Classic Collection.

I have to say this was one of the most hyped colours, I've encountered. Everyone seems to have a love/hate relationship with it. I'm sure  this is because of "bubble gate", the changing of the formula from a "whitish pink" to a "pinker pink". I'm only familiar with the "pinker version" of the colour so I can't compare.

Muppet Collection "Gone Gonzo" Review

Gone Gonzo is described as "The aqua - blue glitter is taking over the world" by OPI.

Gone Gonzo has a clear base with aqua - blue glitter and larger silver glitter pieces mixed in.
This polish is a gorgeous shade of blue that I would love to have seen with a coloured base. We've seen with Excuse Moi!, that OPI can do a  coloured base for this collection. So come on O.P.I.

Muppet Collection "Excuse Moi!" Review

Excuse Moi! is described as "Ahem! This pink glitter has something to say!" by OPI.

Excuse Moi! has medium round rainbow glitter and silver micro glitter suspended is a warm pink base. The rainbow glitter pieces are yellow, orange, blue, green, silver, and pink. Pink and silver are the two dominant glitter colours in the mix.

Unlike Rainbow Connection, Excuse Moi! does not have a clear base, making it easy to achieve opacity in only 2 coats. The glitter goes on well and spreads evenly with no clumping issues.

Classic Monday "Tickle My France-y" Review

I thought I would start Classic Collection Monday because what are we without the classics?

Tickle My France-y is described as "In this naughty shade of nude" by OPI. (Does anyone else think that's a silly tag line?)

Tickle My France-y nude pink colour with a hint of beige. Way too much beige I think.

This polish was originally part of OPI's La Collection De France released in 2008 and is now part of the Classic Collection. I got this polish as a mini part of the Best of the Best Holiday Collection and I'm glad I did. This is not a colour, I'll ever wear again but it might be handy for nail art. I think the mini bottles are a great way to try out a colour before committing to a full size bottle.

Finish

There are soo many polish finishes (finish not polish) I thought it would be handy to have a list of some of the more common ones. Feel free to add any I may have missed!

Creme Most popular polish finish (unless your a glitter lover like myself). Plain (boring) colour without any glitz, or sparkle added. Dries glossy and smooth. Think grown up job appropriate.

Metallic dries to a finish that's look like metal (think coloured stainless steel). Very shiny.

Matte dries, with no shine or sparkle at all. (strangely, I love it)

Suede dries matte, but(!) has a slight shimmer (best of both worlds).

Shimmer  metallic meets creme and dries shiny.

Katy Perry Collection "Not Like The Movies" Review

Not Like The Movies is described as "This sultry silver is the real deal" by OPI

Not Like The Movies is one of 5 colours from the Katy Perry Collection released in 2011. The other colours featured in the collection are: The One That Got Away, Teenage Dream, Last Friday Night, Not Like The Movies, and a Black Shatter.

Not Like The Movies is green/purple duochrome with flecks of silver micro-glitter mixed in.When I first saw this colour in the bottle my first thought was "eww". It looked like a sick frosted mint green and I couldn't imagine why anyone would buy it. I put it on and it was a complete different story. This colour is f*#^ing amazing!! Once on, this polish becomes this amazing metallic duochrome. It appears metallic purple in some light and frosted (frosted eww, I know but trust me it works!) metallic green in others. It's another fun, interesting work appropriate colour, yay OPI!

Sparkle-icious Review

OPI's Sparkle-icious is described as "Multi-color glitter-iciousness!" by O.P.I.

Sparkle-icious is a gold, purple, and blue glitter, from the "2010 Holiday Burlesque Collection". What can I say? I looove this polish with the passion of a thousand burning suns. It just arrived in the mail as a belated b-day gift. I was so excited to try it,  that I started to paint my nails in the elevator ride back  to my apartment.

The glitter particles in this polish are all metallic and super reflective. I'm sure my photos will not do it justice. The purple and gold stand out as primary colours with some blue thrown in for added highlights.

Wedding Colours

I am sooo excited! I'll fill you in on some background before I start to gush. My best friend is getting married this year and I have the honour of being made of Honor, yay! My dress is a fun hot pink,  airy chiffon number with one strap.

I've spend weeks looking for the perfect polish to wear. After a ton of misses, I've finally found my first hit. I used "A-Rose at Dawn...Broke by Noon" as a base and layered "Teenage Dream" over top. The result was fantastic. Perfect for a beach wedding.

Lincoln Park After Dark

OPI's Lincoln Park After Dark is described as "Where Midnight Meets Purple" by O.P.I.

Lincoln Park After Dark is beautiful glossy deep eggplant colour.

This colour is one of my all time favourites for fall/winter. It is a very dark colour and for those unfamiliar, it can appear almost black in the bottle. But don't be scared it doesn't look black on!!

Foil Removal Method

I looove glitter polish but think it's a bitch (yes, I swear like a sailor, and no I will not apologize) to remove. I found the best removal method to be the "foil removal method". It's pretty quick and super easy.
